Dunno, but I just got the beta NDA...

Suppose to be in late March 96 according to the letter MS sent me.

I find this interesting? *questioning*

4.0 just came out and it seems like there are a number of new features. =
As a new VC++ person, what do you see need improvements, and other =
features needing adding.

If you would prefer to tranfer this to private e-mail that might be best =
unless other would like to join in. I don't work for MS, but I would =
like to be able to hear good and bad about a platform we are thinking =
about using.

Thanks,

According to a letter I got from MS, it will be March. I guess they're
doing quarterly releases as far as the subscription goes. I think they have
put out at least one patch tho'. Might want to look at MS' home page
(www.microsoft.com).

[Moderator's note: I check things like this myself before I approve
questions. I found nothing on the Microsoft web site.]

My Visual C++ subscription is coming due and the renewal form I received on
January 10 states: "In late March 1996 you will receive your last
subscription release-Visual C++ 4.1."

Since VC++ upgrades come out three times a year, and the last version of VC++
4.0 came out in November, you could probably infer with some safety that the
next version would be out in February.

Of course, that's just conjecture. Previous performance of the upgrades has
no bearing on the future performance of the issues.

Jim Bucciferro asks:

Of course the real answer to this question is, "When it's ready."

The schedule for subscription releases provides for a new release about every
four months. With the four releases done so far (2.0, 2.1, 2.2, 4.0),
Microsoft has established a pretty good track record for keeping to this
schedule, within a month or so. Extrapolate, and you'll have a good ballpark
estimate.

Don't forget to renew your subscription. If you subscribed prior to 2.1, you
won't get 4.1 at all, unless you've renewed.

You didn't look hard enough. The Service Pack is vailable from
http://www.microsoft.com/visualc/hot/patch.htm. This could be found by
clicking the "Hot Stuff!" link, or by running a search on the word "patch,"
from the Visual C++ homepage.

[Moderator's note: Oops! Sorry for the confusion. I meant that I
found nothing about VC++ 4.1. I wasn't looking for the patch. I have
to learn to read more slowly...]
